I flew in to Sydney Dec 15, 2007. First stop was the Yatala Pie shop to try meat pies. Honestly I didn’t understand the hype. But 2 days and 5 pies later, I got it. I appreciated the enthusiasm and love for these little pastries. In retrospect they are pretty gross, haha
I went to the Brisbane zoo and met Terry Irwin in the gift shop as she was getting some khakis for her son John. She was very sweet even though she seemed tired. The Steve Irwin tribute hall under the croc arena is great.
I spent 3 weeks in Australia. December is very hot there. It was 104fahrenheit average temp daily. The Gold Coast had amazing birds in everyone’s yards. I’ve always wanted parrots in my yard, but I just never thought it was possible without caging myself in. 😉
From Gold coast, I went to the Sunshine coast to Noosa beach. They’re is a small carnival area on the beach that looks like a mini Jersey Shore. There is one bar there. And it’s a good time.
Melbourne has amazing night clubs. Geelong is charming, very local demographic. Great Ocean Road is very long. The 12 apostles are big stones that were rising from the ocean and a really cool landmark. However they’ve been sinking over time. I think there were 7 still visible a few years ago. And don’t quote me but I think there are only 3 now, so you may want to see them before they all sink.
Victoria has colonial buildings and general stores before you get to the Great Ocean Road. Also, on the way to see the apostles, you’ll pass Lorne. It’s a cool camp site. Pack a cooler and stay a night perhaps?
Glass House Mountains were cool to see on the Sunshine Coast
