I find that my happiest days are when I make a cognitive effort to find a silver lining with every situation. I recently read a little story. It went something like this:
Two waves were getting closer and closer to the shore. The smaller wave was so scared. The larger one asked, “Hey little guy, why are you frightened?”
The little wave said, “Man, look at those big rocks. Don’t you see the waves ahead crashing! We are headed that way!”
The larger wave smiled and said, “We are absolutely headed that way and we will, without a doubt, crash. But we aren’t just waves, little man. We are the ocean.”.
See? You don’t need to change so many things and stress about the lack of control you feel like you don’t have. Life is about enjoying the ride. And how wonderful does it feel to go about your day knowing that things will happen that are out of your hands, challenges will face you, and plans will not work out as intended? Because if you enjoy the ride and find the silver lining in every situation, you will feel less like a wave about to crash, and more like an ocean.
