"This is my life. It is my one time to be me. I want to experience every good thing" ~ Maya Angelou

I started cooking southern food after i moved to Northern California after Hurricane Katrina. I like flavor and cooking with seasonings. Years ago, I’d cook pastas and southern meals that were not healthful.

Once my metabolism slowed down I noticed how important a healthful diet was. Not for my physical appearance solely, but also for my skin, energy levels, sleep habits, and mood.

I am glad I know how to cook jambalaya and chicken and dumplings, so I can feed curious friends on special occasions. Learning to cook with that flavor transferred to my healthful cooking styles.

So This is a list of groceries I get every shopping date..my staples to make most of my quick meals:

Vegetables: I (know tomato is a fruit, but ssshh): Red onion, Shallots, Brussel Sprouts, Asparagus, Baby spinach, red orange and yellow Bell Peppers, Heirloom Tomatoes, Lemons, Can of Artichokes, Broccoli

Fruit: Plums, Mangoes, Apricots, Frozen berries, Bananas

Extras: Granola, Coconut Milk

Seasonings: Basil, cajun seasonings, oregano, sesame seeds

Dressings: Balsamic Vinaigrette, Roasted Sesame Asian dressing

Seafood: Frozen tuna, salmon, mahi mahi, shrimp
