"This is my life. It is my one time to be me. I want to experience every good thing" ~ Maya Angelou

Kayaking is a great form of exercise because it’s relaxing, yet challenging at the same time. You can change your speed and level of difficulty at any time, as well as take a break. Kayaking is also a great outdoor sport because it’s available anywhere that there is water, which is a lot of places, so you can even exercise on vacation! Kayaking is great for toning your core and upper body.

When I visit my family in Louisiana, I make it a family day to drive to Tylertown, Mississippi and kayak down the Bogue Chitto River. My parents canoe with the ice chest, and the rest of us kayak down the creek and it opens into a river. The 4-6 hour course is so much fun.

During the spring in Vancouver, it’s nice to kayak with a friend around Bowyer Island. It’s kind of chilly on the ocean, but the wildlife in the mornings make the trip so worth it. The exercise in the morning also makes you more energetic and ready for the day.

My dog Tucker likes to kayak, too!

The view is amazing.

Jeffrey and I went to Nicaragua and kayaked in Lake Apoyo. The wind was strong that day, so getting back to the hostel was quite the feat. Surrounded by volcanoes on a hot, sunny day made it all the more rewarding.

Whether it’s kayaking on a river, lake, or ocean, remember to enjoy the scenery, keep your back straight and strong, and feel your arms and abs become fabulous. 🙂
